My son loves the garden. So much in fact, he keeps picking things before they are ready. We grow lots of radishes. We have to because he loves picking them when they are very little. It is very frustrating and cute all at the same time. He runs in the house in pure excitement with a handful of little radishes that he just picked explaining to us that they are ready. He sets them on the counter in the kitchen waiting for us to use them for dinner that evening.
We did grow sweet 100 tomatoes at one time, but these never made it to see a red ripe color because he would love picking them and he would again run into the house with a handful of little green tomatoes. We started growing bigger ones hoping he will let them turn color. Like I mentioned he loves the garden. Carrots are the same. We grow lots of carrots of different varieties so he can pick them. Some are big some are little, but seeing his excitement makes it all worth it.
We currently have 3 little pumpkins growing that are a little bit bigger than a grapefruit. We are hoping these will make it for Halloween.
We went apple picking and he was very thrilled to pick his own apples. We left with enough for a few pies. Maybe even a galette or two.
