  1. Those three birds are also common winter residents in Michigan. My little experience with a 400mm lens was that it never seemed long enough and was too big for my purposes. I sold mine for a 70 – 200.


    1. So far I’m happy with it. It seems to give me the reach I need, but I also know what you mean about needing some extra in different situations. I’ve thought about an extender, but not too crazy about losing f stops.


      1. Didn’t mean to disparage the lens, just wasn’t the best for my kind of photography. I did only a little bit of bird photography. It was tough, as you said, to get a shot off with the birds constantly moving. I’m glad the lens is working for you.
